Discounted Membership Renewal

2011 was our tenth anniversary and we offered reduced membership renewal rates to celebrate the occasion and thank our loyal members. If you renew now for 2012, you can get the same 2011 discounts before we put the prices back up to normal. This applies to anyone who has ever been a member. If youve been inactive since 2005, you can still get the renewal price.

Ontario Time Attack

Ontario Time Attack allows the driver to take their car and themselves onto some of Ontario's best - and newest - road racing tracks to see what they can do! A typical day with Ontario Time Attack has lapping in the morning with licensed instructors available (required for novices) and timed competition in the afternoon. Depending upon the schedule, the day may end with lapping also. Point by passing is allowed during lapping sessions; no passing is allowed during competition. In our timed competition events, the passing takes place on pit row to ensure that you don't have to worry about other vehicles.

Novices to the sport should absolutely consider the two day Time Attack school held at Mosport's Driver Development Track on May 5 and 6, 2011. Competition events include Mosport DDT, MIR, Toronto Motorports Park, Shannonville Motorsports Park's Pro and Long tracks, and the new Grand Bend track. There are ten events on the 2012 schedule. Website Upgrade Revisited

A year in the making, we have Mike, Malcolm and Don working on a forum migration to vBulletin (same software that TSC, CASC-OR and HADA use.) We could use some assistance with graphic arts and look and feel on the new site. Please let us know if you can lend your talents to the graphical side of things. Well try to warn you of expected forum downtime, but please be patient if something doesnt go as planned.

Rally Season Starts January 7th with the January Jaunt!

A great motorsport for couples, families, or friends, Navigational rally puts you on Ontarios best roads in a competition to stay ON TIME, not go as fast as you can. Any street vehicle can do this type of rally, with no specialized equipment outside of a watch that indicates seconds and a pencil. Autoslalom

Interested in honing your driving skills but not able to make it to Ontario Time Attack, or Rally? Autoslalom is for you. It offers a brand new challenging course at every event, with a friendly atmosphere and a great value for your dollar. With 6-8 runs at every event, there is no shortage of adrenaline all day long. Cars are classed upon registration to keep everyone on a level playing field, and your runs are timed and available after every run. You can even stay up to date with live results streaming to your mobile device!

If you are new to Autoslalom, a great way to get started is to sign up for the CASC-OR Autoslalom Clinic, held every year around the end of April (2012 dates to be announced). SPDA, CASC-OR Members and Supporters Featured in Inside Track News

Scott Murfin's work was again featured in the news! This time, Scott assisted Inside Track with their daily driven / weekend track car, a BMW 328i. Many SPDA members will instantly recognize Scott's alignment rack and corner balance equipment in the title picture. You'll see Time Attack champion Ujjwal Verma's winning Mustang on Scott's website.

Scott has supported CASC-OR Autoslalom, Time Attack, and our ATTS series, always insisting that benefit goes straight to participants and club members. Scott continues to donate his time to Time Attack as co-Chief Instructor with Frank Ewald, and the new OTA video series showing participants how to safety check their car.

Bully Clutch is also featured in the article providing a Stage 1 clutch upgrade. Frank Bedard at Bully can customize any clutch for your specific needs. Lots of us are big fans of the streetable Stage 4 package (4-puck sprung cerametallic) that spools without effort. STeveD's "new" STi is running a twin-plate from Bully and Rally beast "Pugsy" has a custom organic Stg 1 with upgraded pressure plate with lightweight Exedy flywheel, in stock at JRP.

Navigational Rally Championship Battle Continues

SPDA's October 1st No Winter Maintenance Rally (NWMR) saw the expert and intermediate class battles continue with no class champions yet declared. With 10 events this year, and a field of 22 cars at this inaugural fall event in Grey County. MLRC's Jane and Bruce Leonard added to their win count, putting the other three competitive Expert teams a step further back going into this weekend's President's Prize rally. SPDA teams of Trevor and Ted, and Opal with a new driver will seek to stop Bruce and Jane's winning streak.

MCO's Peter Brownhill and Gary Corbett decisively took the intermediate win to bring the fight to SPDA's Burgess and Ford. Tim and Perry will seek to bring the wins back into their column this weekend.

Novice class had the pleasant surprise of welcoming back Nikola Novak as a navigator and Iwan Mota driving to a first place finish. The novice driver championship is also still undecided this late in the season. SPDA welcomes Novice driver Chris Weigel as a new member who will be competing with Yevgeniy this weekend in Peterborough.

Thank you very much for joining us on a great day out in Grey County. Grey described the morning skies, but it was a fine afternoon of rallying with some fantastic scenery and even better roads.

This event occurred only due the generosity of the CP working volunteers from many RSO clubs. We were tight on crews, but they pulled it off! Thank you Joe, Laszlo, Christine, Paul, Ted, Opal, Ivano, Ross and Steve!

2011 No Winter Maintenance Rally

No Winter Maintenance Rally - October 1st 2011

You need to know: Ontario is blessed with many "No Winter Maintenance" roads that have stunning elevation changes, challenging cambered curves and a lack of residents during winter time. For that reason, many towns don't bother to send snowploughs out to these roads during the winter, and just groom them nicely come spring. These roads are a favourite of drivers for their smooth and fun driving nature and that's why we've strung together some of the best this province has to offer. All of these roads are easily passable by road-going sedans, coupes, minivans, SUV's ... whatever you drive to work can safely do this rally.

What to expect: Why not show you videos of a couple of the roads? To make sure that all of the roads are easily passable by all vehicles, we take a low sports car on bald Toyo track tires and send it out to test the route. If this car can do it, we know you can do it in the minivan. Note how smooth the gravel roads are! This is a perfect weekend drive for a Miata or a Jeep!

Where to go: We're hosting this rally out of the Flying Spatula restaurant in Flesherton Ontario, formerly known as the Grey 4 Diner, a short drive northwest of Toronto. 125 Collingwood, Flesherton, Ontario, N0C 1E0. When to be there: Saturday, October 1st 2011, registration opens at 9:00am, and the first car is off at 11:00am. Don't be later than 10:00am! If you are new to rally, we'll be offering a quick "introduction" to the type of route instructions we'll be giving you beforehand. The novice instructions are oriented toward keeping everyone on route and enjoying the drive. See the bottom of this page for more beginner resources.The rally is approximately 250km long and will be held in two legs with a rest break for a snack. You should be back at The Flying Spatula before 5:00pm.

What do I need: A driver and a navigator, bring your ownership and insurance certificate to registration, a pen and a watch that shows seconds. If you don't own the vehicle, you'll need a letter of permission from the owner granting you permission to use it in our road rally.

Registration: If you register by September 26th, we'll only ask you for $45 which includes a snack during the rest break and stunning trophies if you earn one! We'd like you to register in advance so that we know how many people to expect, but you can just show up the morning of. Registration at the event is $50 per car.

SPDA wishes to thank all of the comepetitors who joined us for these three fantastic days at Mosport! We were graced with good weather every day, and that allowed three of our competitors to set new class records in GT1, GT4 and T1! Detailed Results Here..

We want to thank all of our club volunteers who volunteered at this event to make it "The best OTA Event ever hosted" even though they weren't competing in it! SPDA is pleased to host the 2011 ASN Canada FIA National Time Attack Championship at Mosport International, presented by Sailun Tires and Mobil 1. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are offering this weekend at unheard of rates for three days of such incredible value at Mosport!

When: Fri August 26 Sun August 28 2011 Friday is a lapping / practice day

Where: Mosport International Raceway, Grand Prix track. Camping and showers are available.

How Much: Until April 30th 2011 we will hold the Open House pricing on the Entry Form. All prices include HST.

$495 for the weekend. Yes, $495 for THREE days on the fastest track in North America, with the fastest Time Attack competitors in Canada!

$195 for Friday only until April 30th, maximum 60 entries accepted Priority given to TA competitors

$165 for Saturday only until April 30th, maximum 80 entries accepted

Elligibility: Current Membership in ASN Canada FIA or SCCA affiliated club and a Class C (Solosport) Competition license are required for Saturday and Sunday competition. If you do not have either, the cost of these are built into the above registration price.

Rules and GCRs: This event will be held under ASN Canada FIA National GCRs and National Time Attack Rules (pending publication post April 27th) Supplemental regulations will follow publication of the National Rules. In short, National rules are expected to follow Ontario rules, but with separate Touring 4, Improved, Prepared and Modified classes. R-Compound tires are -5 PIPs, and Street tires are -10 PIPs.

ATTS - 3 Touge "Prove IT"

\On weekends in the narrow mountain roads of Japan, enthusiasts would gather to test themselves and their driving skills. Two drivers would challenge each other to the top of the mountain in hopes of capturing the glory of the win. This challenge was called Touge.

The SPDA has successfully captured the feeling of what these challenges were like. An adrenaline inducing competition between two challengers competing for top honours, and continuing the challenge with each successive win. Mosport DDT will be converted into that challenge, the track modified to simulate narrow roads single car bridges, and wide open straits. Two cars will be lined up 200 feet apart, for the lead car, your job is to extend the gap, for the chaser, your job is to close the gap. Cross your finish line first and you move on to the next challenge. Lose, and you watch the rest of the day from the sidelines.

True to ATTS fashion, you dont need to win your class to win a prize, our sponsors Toyo Tires, JRP, Petro 94, Royal Purple, Stoptech Brakes, and many many more will be drawn at the end of the day to all that participated. All draws are random and you must participate to win.

Practice all morning, competition in the afternoon, the best value in track days, courtesy of the sponsors.
